
Jane studied Piano with Phyllis Sellick and Accompaniment with Ruth Dyson at the Royal College of Music. After gaining her GRSM, ARCM and post-graduate certificate at the RCM, she studied for a year at the University of London Institute of Education, gaining a PGCE in Music Education.
She spent a number of years as a teacher, musical director and choir trainer, before joining the BBC in
After a short while, she became a Specialist Music Producer for Radio 2 and spent the next twelve years producing programmes such as “Listen to the Band”, “Folk on Two” and “Pam Ayres” as well as a great many documentaries, sessions and concerts featuring musicians from a wide range of musical genres (from Bach, via Barbershop to Bhangra).
When her children came along, she took a career break from the BBC, but “kept her hand in” by teaching, arranging and writing; broadcast credits include material for two series of “Call My Bluff”, (BBC1 TV).
She now freelances regularly as a TV news director and vision-mixer, mostly working for BBC 1’s “Midlands Today”. In addition, she teaches piano and music theory and travels all over the
